SEO Tips To Get To The Top of Google, Part 2

Search Engine Optimization – We’re going to continue with tips that will help us move up higher in organic Google searches.  The next thing I want to focus in on is keywords.  They are the meat and potatoes of search engines.  You have nothing if you don’t have keywords.  Your site should have keywords strategically located throughout  – on the face of the site and in the unseen code.  To know where to put your keywords, you may want to take advantage of the skills of an SEO expert like those at Christian Faith Web Design: http://www.ChristianFaithWebDesign.com .  However, we are going to look at a free tool that will help you know what words to use.

Keywords are the words that someone searching the web might use to find what you offer.  Google knows all about searches and we can tap into their knowledge with a free tool they made available called the Wonder Wheel.  It sounds kinda like something Wonder Woman might use to fight crime but it is for us to out-keyword our competition.  Let’s take a look at where it is and once you find it you’ll have a blast with those keywords!

Do a search with Google, then on the left you will see the “Wonder Wheel” as shown circled in red.

Google’s Wonder Wheel is a great tool to generate ideas for keywords.  With just one keyword typed in Google’s search, you can use the Wonder Wheel to find virtually infinite keywords. Just click on the newly generated ideas it offers and a new wheel keeps opening up.

Type a word, then it generates more related to what you typed.

SEO Tips To Get To The Top of Google

Search Engine Optimization – companies spend millions to get to the top page and top slots on Google’s organic search results.  Organic means the non-paid search results. It is well known that people tend to only click on the first three links of the organic results.  If you are one of those three links, you’re in.  If you’re not, you’re wishing you were.  But you don’t get there by just wishing.  It takes work.  For you to be successful at having an internet site, it is essential your company is one of those first three links. Then you will have thousands of visitors to your site which converts to sales and exposure for you.

So how do you get to the top?  Well, I always say your web site is an investment, not an expense.  You do have to do some investing in someone that knows SEO to have a successful site. When you do a search on Google, the stuff at the top in the colored box and the stuff to the right are the non-organic or paid search results.  Somewhere to the top of these links you will see “Sponsored Links”.   These are the people shelling out the big bucks for advertising on Google. You can be there by starting your own Pay-Per-Click campaign through Google’s AdWords.  Whenever someone clicks on one of these links, the company has to pay money.

However, we are focusing on how to get to the top of the non-paid search results.  Just under the top sponsored links will usually be the organic search results as shown in the red below.

A really simple tip is to look at your competition and see how they got to the top then do the same thing.  They didn’t get to the top, in most cases, by accident.  They likely paid an SEO expert to get them there.  So you can simply go to their site and see what makes them rank so high.  Click on the link to their site then in your browser you can click “view” then “page source” (or “source”).  This allows you to see their code – the garbly gook behind the scenes of a website.  What you want to look for are the meta tags title and description usually found toward the top.  An example is below:

These are the most important elements of a website from an SEO perspective.  The title tag is the title of your site.  It shows up on Google as the link itself.  The description is just that – a description of your site.  It shows up under the Google link.  The wording of these two elements of your site is so important. Therefore, you want to make sure you use the key words related to your industry in them.  However, you don’t want to overdue the key words to the point that it is key word spamming.  For example, you don’t want to repeat the keys words over and over like <title>New Cars, New Cars, New Cars, New Cars</title> Google would not be happy with you if you did that.
